Clark began his investment career with the South Carolina National Bank in 1966 and was with Robinson-Humphrey (now Suntrust) from 1968 to 1977. He was a Partner with Bear Stearns from 1977 to 1982 and helped them create the Bank Portfolio Advisory Group (BPA) which evaluated investment portfolios for community banks. From 1982 to 1992 Clark was the Founder & CEO of Calumet Financial Advisors which he later sold to Synovus Financial Corporation (NYSE: SNV). Calumet Financial had over 150 community banks as clients for their investment portfolio advisory service. In 1998, Clark acquired the Woodland Hills Operating Co. while continuing to act as an investment consultant to many community banks. He has served on numerous banking and corporate boards to include: Fuqua Enterprises, Inc. (FQE), FMB Bancshares, Inc., United American Bank, American Southern Insurance Company, Synovus Securities, Inc, Woodland Hills Operating Company and Columbus Bank and Trust.
Clark graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1963 with a degree in Banking and Finance. After college he spent 3 years in the Marine Corps as a 2nd Lt., served a tour in Vietnam, and retired from the Marine Corps Reserve with the rank of Major. While stationed in Japan he studied international economics at the University of Tokyo. Clark is an avid Sailor and splits time between homes in Novia Scotia, the mountains in North Carolina, and outside Atlanta.
